Here's the finished Captain Picard drawing! I think I'm going to enter it into Chaos Theory :)

Artifix Noctem 10(? 11?)
This week's Artifix Noctem had no true theme, so I had a hard time finding something to draw. I spent the first 15-20 minutes browsing the web for pictures of Frank Reynolds, from "Always Sunny in Philadelphia", and came across this guy's work: Hawk Krall
The reference image I used was this:
and my poor attempt at a recreation is here:
For a two-hour sketch / drawing session, I feel pretty proud of that work! Also, considering my reference image was on a blackberry, it was pretty difficult to translate it to paper, but I think I did pretty good. If I were a real artist, and intended to sell the work or something, I wouldn't have so blatantly tried to copy that work, but man, the original artwork by Hawk Krall is beautiful. I hope he offers prints of that piece sometime, because I would totally buy one.

Captains Log, Stardate 03010...
Thursday of this week is going to be a busy day! National Day of Prayer, tour from D.S. Perkins, Literacy Council awards, meeting with SWLA Paranormal... the fun doesn't stop!
I'm currently looking at grant information, because we will be seriously advancing our permanent exhibit plans in the next couple of years. The 100th anniversary of our town's founding will be in 2014, so we hope to roll out a brand new, totally permanent display by that time! If you're interested in lending a hand, let me know!

ATC night!
I took part in an artist trading card night tonight at Erik Jessen's studio! Around 200 people attended (that's maybe an exaggeration... maybe it was closer to 11 or 12 people)... The assignment was to draw three artist trading cards, which would then be swapped at random with three other cards. Overall, I had a ton of fun, and ended up with some really great cards! Check out the full details of the event at Erik Jessen's blog, which you can find here. He also has photos of all the submitted cards.
Here are the three cards that I submitted:
From left to right, that's: He-Man, a Carebear riding an elephant whilst chastising Albert Einstein, and Bea Arthur, from Golden Girls. I'm not very good at drawing shawls, so the Golden Girls one might suck a little bit. The rest of them are genius though, if I do say so myself (and I do.) Also, I wasn't able to finish the background on the Golden Girls pic, because I had to go to a concert (Preservation Hall Jazz Band... for Banners series).
Here are the three cards I ended up with:
Unfortunately, since I don't have the cards in-hand, I'm not even sure who drew what!!! I LOVE the card with the funky shapes... I have a feeling that one was Michelle's, which is awesome! :) Also, I really dig the style on the graffiti style mask / helmet. I think it actually captures the way I feel after a whole pot of coffee... And finally, that crazy Carebear is basically throwing lightning bolts! It's almost like.. Thor, but in carebear form.
Finally, when I was pulling numbers to find out which cards I would receive, I found the golden ticket, just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! This ticket entitled me to one (1) Erik Jessen limited edition print of "Kraken Killz"!!! I'm not going to post a photo of it here, because you need to go to his blog and see it there. Here's a link to that, if you're interested (and you should be. It's amazing.)
Overall, had a great time, and I REALLY look forward to doing this again. Seriously. I hope they keep inviting me, even though my art is terrible.

Another night of cool Star Trek missions!
I was joined for a few missions tonight by Daniel again, and got some better screenshots after we finished a time travel mission! We traveled back in time and assisted the original Enterprise with some stuff, and I made sure I got a good picture of it, heh!
Here's a picture of Dan's avatar "Asher" and my avatar uhh... Mantis. (The other characters running around in these shots are a few our bridge crew... his are more humanoid, mine are all green-skinned.)
And some more photos of my new bridge. My avatar can't sit in the captain chair because he's too short.. instead, I stand on it... I think that actually looks more interesting anyway... Little bug guy standing in the captain chair shouting orders, haha. (I crack up everytime I see my tactical officers... The big, beefy, worker caste, wearing those red shirts... Ok, no one else cares.)

Cyborg Superman gets a card!
While Eric was away from his desk, his action figures came alive!!! Cyborg Superman was upset that no one had drawn an ATC of him, so he proceeded to attack the Star Trek TNG bridge crew!!! (you can see the ATC Data looks worried!!!)
When Eric returned to his desk on Wednesday afternoon, he solved this little dilemma by drawing a really great ATC of the sinister robotic Supes!

I just finished both cards for my ATC set that I'm trading with my assistant, Eric... Attempted to do Lieutenant Commander Data from TNG, and Spock... Here's Data, posing in between the two cards.
I'm not the best artist or anything, but it is really fun to draw things that interest me. Who would have thought that as an adult, I would enjoy coloring something with markers?!
Last one for a while...
Ok, this is the last Star Trek Online post for a while. I made two new phone wallpapers last night (they are basically identical)... I just love this game!
The new character is SO MUCH FUN to play... Creating turrets & shield generators = almost invincible away teams!

Some new screenshots... The guy in red is a friend of mine, Dan... I'm the insect looking guy on the right. Engineering!
Star Trek
So basically as long as I've been around, I have been a pretty big Star Trek fan. As a youngster, I even went to a convention in Lake Charles with a friend, and was able to meet John DeLancie (Q)! My interest was rekindled thanks to Bacarisse & Gideon, who convinced me that I should probably be playing. I will now show you a few screen shots (from the bridge of my science vessel), including my current wallpaper on my blackberry.
This was my old uniform (bridge crew had the uniforms from TNG, my captain had the uniform from DS9).
Here's Lieutenant Zippy monitoring a science terminal.
Here's Lieutenant Commander Deadman (my main character), and in the background, you can see Lieutenant Frito (red uniform... tactical station), and Lieutenant Tobias (blue head over the right shoulder... engineering station)
Oh, and my phone wallpaper, as promised:

New ATC from Eric!
I recently was inspired to get involved in this "Artist Trading Card" stuff that has been going around. My first trade began yesterday with @ejessen, and I requested four members of the JSA (seated at the JSA table in their headquarters). He requested several superhero logos from me. (I think he was being nice, and trying to avoid drawing attention to my horrible artz.) Regardless. I finished the logos yesterday afternoon and laminated them. Here are some photos:
Front:
I feel like they look pretty good, for what they are... I tried to make the card itself look somewhat like the character's costume (this is most evident on Batman & GL's cards).
After seeing my cards, my new assistant Eric said he wants to get in on the action too, so we're trading two cards each... I'll do Spock & Data for him (from Star Trek... How many Spocks do you know?), and he's going to do the two greatest captains to ever live for me (Picard & Kirk!!!)
I really hope no one feels gipped when they get my cards, because I really have no talent, haha.
I'll keep you updated (my one follower.)

New post? After a year?
Tried switching over this blog to my new account. I think it worked! Maybe I'll try to keep this up now.
